The Giro d'Italia (Tour of Italy) is one of the most prestigious road cycling tours of the year. During almost the whole month of May the mountains dominate the 21 stages of the event. Over the last few years the stages are more and more demanding on the riders with steep climbs and fast downhill stretches.

The 18 UCI ProTeams are competing for the pink jersey which is the Italian equivalent to the French yellow jersey in the Tour de France. To register all times and automatically score the bicycle racers the organization of the Giro d'Italia relies on the MYLAPS ProChip timing system as they have done the previous years.
